An evacuation alert has been issued for an area of the Chilliwack River Valley due to the possibility of a landslide.

Following a geotechnical assessment, the Fraser Valley Regional District (FVRD) issued the alert for two properties on Hansom Road in Electoral Area E at 3:20 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 3.

The evacuation alert was issued “due to immediate danger to life safety and health because of the atmospheric river event and heavy rainfall causing slope instability and mudslides,” FVRD announced.

The geotechnical assessment noted there had been recent additional ground movement and it was recommended that additional properties be placed on evacuation alert.

The two properties are 47930 and 47933 Hansom Rd.

An evacuation order for two neighbouring properties issued on Nov. 22, remains in place for 47963 and 47960 Hansom Rd.

An evacuation order was issued on Dec. 1 for 5 more properties on Chilliwack Lake Road.
