B.C.’s police watchdog is currently investigating the death of a Boston Bar woman.

In a Tuesday morning (Aug. 1) press release, the Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC said they are investigating the death which took place on April 2, 2023. On that day, Boston Bar RCMP said that emergency services were on scene for a residence fire, located about 7 km north of Boston Bar, where one woman was found dead inside.

IIO was notified of the incident shortly after as, during the week before the fire, police had responded to several calls for wellness checks.

The IIO investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.

Anyone with information, or video footage, is asked to contact the watchdog at 1-855-446-8477 or on its website iiobc.ca.
