A man police describe as a South Asian man with a heavy build, approximately 30 years old and 6’1” tall, with black hair, and wearing a light-coloured, possibly light purple, hoodie, beige pants, and white shoes is a suspect in two unprovoked assaults.

Surrey Police Service and RCMP Surrey Provincial Operations Support Unit (SPOSU) officers are investigating a pair of late-morning unprovoked assaults in Surrey that has sent one person to hospital.

Shortly before 11:30 a.m. on Sunday (Feb. 9), Surrey Police Service officers were called to a report of an assault in progress at a business in the 6400-block of 120 Street, an SPS release said. Officers arrived and found two men had been assaulted, one physically and the other with a weapon, and the suspect had left the scene.

Both victims were at the business when the suspect began to physically assault one of them, a staff member at the business, the release noted.

When the other victim — a bystander — tried to intervene, he was assaulted with a weapon, believed to be a knife, the release said. The victim who was physically assaulted was treated on scene by BC Health Emergency Services workers, while the other victim was taken to hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

The suspect was last seen leaving the scene eastbound on 64 Avenue towards 121 Street.

He is described as a South Asian man with a heavy build, approximately 30 years old and 6’1” tall, with black hair, and wearing a light-coloured, possibly light purple, hoodie, beige pants, and white shoes. He may be in possession of a knife, police said.
