No injuries were reported after a house fire in Clayton Heights Saturday (Sept. 23).
More than 20 Surrey firefighters battled to gain control of the two-alarm fire in the 19300-block of 66 Avenue, according to Surrey Fire assistant chief Rich Bodnark.
Four families are unable to return to their homes due to the fire.
“The house where the fire originated and a neighbouring unit sustained significant damage,” Bodnark said.
Each house had basement suites.
Surrey fire crews responded to the call of a house fire around noon.
The house where the fire started was fully engulfed in flames when crews arrived, Bodnark said.
“Crews then performed an offensive attack concentrating on protecting adjacent homes and mitigating further property loss and further fire spread,” he said.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
“I just want to recognize our crews for their quick and efficient extinguishment of this fire,” Bodnark said.
“This situation occurred not much more than a month ago and we could have had another catastrophic event like that.”
