Final paving of a particularly rough section of Yale Road at Hocking Avenue starts this week.

The milling and paving work, which is the final phase of a sewer main replacement, is scheduled to get underway Wednesday, April 6, weather permitting, according to City of Chilliwack’s Tweet on April 5.

The announcement means Yale Road will be reduced to single-lane traffic periodically in both directions during the construction work, April 6 to April 9.

Paving is set be completed on Yale Road, from Hocking Avenue to 140 metres south of Hocking, and Hocking Avenue from the tracks to Yale Road. Hocking Avenue will also be closed to the train tracks periodically.

The driveways to local businesses will remain open and accessible.

The contractor will not be working on that section of Yale Road from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. weekdays to “accommodate morning traffic.”

Milling will be completed at night, and paving will be completed during the day for a total of one night shift and one day shift.

“Please consider using an alternate route during this time.”

Severe weather in November delayed completion of the project.

A deep trench was excavated in the northbound lane of Yale Road last October, followed by partial road closures to allow the contractor to upgrade the sewer main underground. But the temporary “cold patch” asphalt used in December to close the trench brought complaints from drivers forced to bounce over it while awaiting the final paving repairs.
