Pair charged with possession of firearm

Two Chilliwack residents were arrested and charged for possession of what police said was a long barreled firearm

Chilliwack RCMP were called to the industrial part of Yale Road this week to investigate a complaint of a man with a gun.

Police officers arrested four people from a motel complex in the 44400-block of Yale Road at about 1:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Two people were found to be in possession of a long barrel weapon, the investigation revealed.

Gregory J. Cromarty, 42, and Virginia F. Myles, 39, both of Chilliwack, were charged with possession of a weapon for dangerous purposes, unauthorized possession of a firearm, and uttering threats.

Cromarty was held in custody until his next court appearance on June 18, Myles was released on conditions and also set to appear in court June 18.

"This incident underlines the need for our current gun amnesty," said Cpl. Len vanNieuwenhuizen. "June is Gun amnesty month and it is imperative, in the name of community safety, that we get the firearms off the streets."
