Meadow Rose Society is holding a nickel drive this weekend to help the babies of Chilliwack.
On Saturday, Nov. 16, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., the non-profit charity will be set up at Chilliwack Mall requesting any change that can be spared.
The local charity works with families from Boston Bar to Yarrow providing essential needs for children under the age of three, including diapers, wipes, formula, baby food, furniture, clothing and more.
Since opening in 2012, the society has applied for several grants, but has not yet had any approved.
As such, it relies on the community for support.
“We simply need money to keep helping the babies in need in our community,” said director Christa Esau.
“It’s easy to say babies aren’t expensive if you breast feed, however not all mothers are physically able to nurse their babies. and I have even noticed the increase in the price of diapers over the last couple of years.”
Esau hopes the nickel drive will increase both the awareness for the Meadow Rose Society and awareness for the youngest members of the Chilliwack community most in need.
