Get ready for months of single-lane traffic on Chilliwack River Road.

City of Chilliwack officials say a watermain installation will serve the future needs of residents, businesses, and improve the reliability of the water system in the area.

The project is getting underway in the section between McGuire Road and Bailey Road on Chilliwack River Road, to install about 1600 metres of 200-millimetre ductile iron watermain.

The work zone will be controlled by flaggers for single-lane alternating traffic.

“While the project may create road disturbances in the area of some properties, the city will work with the contractor, Sandpiper Contracting Ltd., to reduce the impacts where possible,” according to the release March 3.

Timeline of construction runs from now until June 2022, with work conducted Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
