A mobile fueling station for small and mid-size fleets using compressed natural gas has been introduced by IMW Industries in Chilliwack.
IMW CEO Brad Miller said the mobile stations "broaden our capabilities in the expanding market for natural gas compression equipment" by offering fleet operators a way "to provide temporary or emergency coverage for the CNG fueling networks."
The mobile stations, mounted on 24-foot trailers, can be deployed and operating in days rather than months, providing the economic and environmental benefits of using natural gas fuel.
CNG costs about $1.50 less per gallon than diesel or gasoline, and reduces greenhouse emissions by up to 30 percent in light-duty vehicles and 23 percent in medium to heavy-duty vehicles.
IMW is at the forefront of the expanding CNG market, manufacturing the special compressors needed to safely dispense the fuel at its Chilliwack plant.
The Chilliwack company was purchased last year by Clean Energy Fuels, a U.S. firm that supplies natural gas to alternative-fuel vehicles.
But Miller said at the time the purchase would give IMW "more clout" to engage in business opportunities around the world.
