A Mission house off Cedar Street was badly damaged in an mid-afternoon fire yesterday, Aug. 6.
The property is located across from the Husky Gas Station at the top of Cedar Street. Nearby people saw plumes of smoke rising from the blaze just before 3 p.m.
A water truck, several fire engines, Mission RCMP and an ambulance attended the scene. The fire was completely extinguished by 4 p.m., and Cedar Street was blocked off from the gas station to the four-way stop with Dewdney Trunk Road, according to a social media post.
The Record has reached out to Mission Fire Rescue Service for more details.
The property, which is located down a long gravel road off of Cedar Street, remains taped off today, Aug. 7.
The house was badly damaged in the blaze, and has two large holes burned through the roof.
Mission Fire Rescue Service has had a busy week battling fires in dry conditions caused by nearly two months of no rain.
There have been seven fires at Heritage Park in the last month (three in the last week), one of which grew to nearly a hectare and required every fire crew in the city, along with a crew from Maple Ridge and a Coastal Wildfire helicopter to extinguish.
There has also been one other house fire, which was sparked by arson, according to the Mission RCMP.
