Man stabbed on Coquihalla Highway

Stabbing leads to roadside checks, police dog search.

A man is in custody following a stabbing near Britton Creek Friday, along the Coquihalla Highway.

Police found a man who had been stabbed, in a vehicle near the border of Hope and Merritt. The suspect had fled on foot, prompting police to set up a check point on the highway. They stopped all vehicles and issued a warning to avoid picking up hitchhikers. They also called in the police dog services and the Emergency Response Team.

Shortly after the ERT were deployed, a man fitting the suspect's description emerged from the bushes in Britton Creek. Police nabbed the suspect, and he's currently being held in custody.

Both the Hope and Merritt RCMP are investigating the incident. No further information is available. Follow this website for further updates.
