A man has pleaded guilty in relation to a 2012 crash in Abbotsford that claimed the life of 67-year-old Eileen Kleinfelder of Chilliwack.

Michael Larocque, 47, pleaded guilty to dangerous driving causing death on Monday in Abbotsford provincial court on what was supposed to be the first day of his trial.

His sentencing hearing will be scheduled for a later date.

Larocque was initially charged with criminal negligence causing death.

The collision took place Oct. 15, 2012 on the Sumas Way/Highway 11 bypass just south of the Old Clayburn Road overpass in Abbotsford.

Larocque was the lone occupant of a van that crossed the centre line and ran head-on into the vehicle being driven by Kleinfelder, who was also travelling alone.

She was pronounced dead at Abbotsford Regional Hospital. Larocque was airlifted to Royal Columbian Hospital for treatment.

A cement centre median was later installed on the bypass and remains there today.
