A Langley couple is still in a state of shock after learning they’d won $7 million in the March 11 Lotto 6/49 draw.
"We were in our travel trailer, (which) we live in, when we checked our numbers. We couldn't believe it was us," said Richard Bourgeois, 48, who along with his partner, Michelle Wishard, 43, spoke with the the Times from the BC Lottery Corporation’s Vancouver office on Monday, after claiming their prize. “I was checking the ticket online and saw we had one number. Then two and then all six. This is just surreal and unbelievable!”
The pair bought the winning ticket at the Save On Foods on Yale Road in Chilliwack.
The happy twosome said their first priority is taking care of their families.
“Richard’s helping his family and I’m going to take care of my three kids,” smiled Wishard.
"And we won't have to work anymore. That will be nice, too," they said.
The couple met seven years ago, while working with West Coast Amusements, a Canadian travelling carnival, and have been together ever since.
Wishard was recently laid off, so the timing of the win is very nice, she said. The pair have been living in a small trailer at West Coast Amusements headquarters in Langley.
"Six years living in a trailer is enough. We will definitely be looking at buying a home now," said Bourgeois. He also plans to buy a truck.
They plan to still live in Langley. They are spending the next little while travelling to see their families.
