An inquest into the death of a 42-year-old Chilliwack man has been called by the BC Coroner’s Service.

Kevin Seiji Mukuyama died Feb. 11, 2015 following an encounter with police at a home in the 9700 block of Oak Street in Chilliwack.

Police were initially called to an upstairs suite at the home after reports that a man had stabbed a dog and was “freaking out.”

While attempting to arrest the man, police said, a struggle broke out and a  “conducted energy weapon” was used to subdue him.

Mukuyama later died in hospital.

The inquest will take place beginning Nov. 14,  at the Coroners Courtroom in Burnaby.

Presiding coroner Brynne Redford and a jury will hear evidence from witnesses under oath to determine the facts surrounding this death. The jury will have the opportunity to make recommendations aimed at preventing deaths under similar circumstances.
