More impaired drivers were taken off Chilliwack roads this past December during the annual RCMP Counter Attack project.
Although the dangers of drinking and driving appears to be resonating with the public, Chilliwack RCMP still charged six drivers with impaired driving during the Counter Attack project from Dec. 2-31.
There were also five three-day immediate driving prohibitions issued at the roadside, eight 24-hour prohibitions issued for alcohol and six 24-hour prohibitions for driving under the influence of drugs.
There were eight 90-day prohibitions issued to drivers caught driving with over the .08 blood/alcohol limit.
RCMP officials said taking impaired drivers off the road is not just a December project, but an on-going mandate that is taken very seriously.
"The numbers definitely reflect that we are taking these people off the roads and potentially preventing accidents or even fatalities," Const. Tracy Wolbeck said.
"The ultimate goal would be to have a Counter Attack year where we saw no alcohol-related charges or violation tickets issued," she said.
"There would be no measure of success greater than that," she said.
