IHIT now involved as RCMP confirms shooting death in Chilliwack

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) is looking into a shooting that resulted in a death in Chilliwack early Thursday morning (May 27).

Around 1:15 a.m. Chilliwack RCMP responded to a report of a person with a gunshot wound being transported to hospital.

That person died, and IHIT is now working with the RCMP and coroner’s service.

Facebook poster Jeremy Vaughn posted around 1:30 a.m. that there was a police presence outside of the hospital and an area had been taped off.

“Was told that there was a shooting right outside,” he said.

RCMP didn’t confirm that.

“Police are currently in the early evidence gathering stages of their investigation,” a news release noted. “No further information is available for release at this time.”
