An accident on Highway 1 east of Chilliwack Thursday morning has the westbound lanes closed until the afternoon.

DriveBC reported both westbound lanes are closed at Herrling Island due to a vehicle incident.

An assessment of the scene was in progress by 9 a.m. with an update expected by 10:30 a.m.

The estimated time of opening is between 1 and 3 p.m.

Alternate route available via Highway 7 and Highways 9 or 11.
