A heavy police presence, including the RCMP’s Emergency Response Team (ERT), had a section of Reeves Road in Chilliwack blocked off Saturday morning (April 24).

The incident is at the corner of Camp River Road where officers are responding to a report of a person in “mental distress,” said RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Mike Rail, about three hours after the incident started.

RCMP arrived on scene to assist the person who then barricaded themselves in the home with a knife and another weapon. They are now in efforts of trying to get them out of the house.

A neighbour said they have been there since about 7:30 a.m.

“The safety of the public and our officers is paramount,” Rail added, when asked about the large police presence. “There never was a danger to the public.”
