Update: Stabbing leads to early morning police presence in Harrison

RCMP were at a home on Chestnut Ave Wednesday morning with an armoured vehicle, residents say

Residents on McCombs Drive woke up to a heavy police presence on their street Wednesday (Jan. 9), as many RCMP officers and even an armoured vehicle blocked off the street.

Residents posted on Facebook around 6:30 a.m. Wednesday morning, saying there was a heavy police presence at a home on the corner of Chestnut Ave and McCombs Drive.

“What actually woke me up was my son and wife waking me up, because they had seen some lights and commotion going on outside,” Evan, a nearby resident, said about the incident. “Pretty much I would say a minute or two after they woke me up, I would say the whole neighbourhood lit up like daylight with a percussion grenade, a flash bang or whatever you want to call it.”

Evan asked that his last name not be used, as he feared reprisal from the occupants of the home. On Facebook, several residents said there have been problems at the house for many years, and police had been there in the past.

Police blocked off the street, Evan said, and had at least nine vehicles around the home. A number of residents also said they saw an armoured vehicle on site.

RCMP then used a loud speaker to communicate with people in the home, Evan said.

“Come out of the front door with your hands in the air,” police can be heard saying in an audio clip taken by another resident.

According to Evan, police officers then entered the home through the garage and front door.

“It seemed like there was a lot of drama, then it never really came to much,” he said. “All the police were milling about for quite a long time, but there was no dramatic scene or dramatic takedown to note.”

The incident had wound down by around 7:30 a.m.

The Observer has reached out to the RCMP for more details.

More to come.
