This greenhouse on Prest Road in Chilliwack fell victim to the snow and freezing rain collapsing under the weight.

As Chilliwack thaws out from near-record snowfall followed by freezing rain, damage of varying degrees is being assessed around the city.

A glass greenhouse on Prest Road collapsed under the weight of the accumulations destroying the structure entirely.

And there is at least one incident of a chicken barn collapsing out in Rosedale. The Progress could not confirm at this point how many if any birds were inside, but apparently the neighbouring community worked hard to lessen the damage and loss.

City of Chilliwack crews are out again today clearing catch basins and dealing with downed trees all over town.

The city reports “massive damage” to trees throughout the city, many of which will not survive.

There are still a number of road closures due to downed power lines and/or flooding. Closures are listed on the city’s Traffic Notifications webpage at www.chilliwack.com/main/page.cfm?id=1098.

City hall has asked residents only to call the operations department to report serious matters such as a public works emergency, flooding or a tree across a road at 6040793-2810.
