Go By Bike week returns to Chilliwack May 29 to June 4, with locals encouraged to cycle their way around town.

Created through a partnership between the City of Chilliwack and Cycle Chilliwack, the theme of this spring’s campaign is ‘shifting your mode.’ People are encouraged to make a conscious decision to leave their vehicle at home and find other ways to get where they’re going.

“Our goal is to promote Chilliwack as an accessible community that supports sustainable means of moving around town,” said Cycle Chilliwack co-chair David Swankey in a news release. “That looks different for every individual and every family, but the goal is to support choices that celebrate Chilliwack as an active, healthy and thriving community.”

By registering and tracking progress at www.gobybikebc.ca/chilliwack, Chilliwackians can make themselves eligible to win local and provincial prizes. The provincial grand prize is a self-guided cycling adventure for two in Croatia.

Both individual and team registration is currently open.

“I’ve participated in Go By Bike week for about eight years,” said cycling enthusiast Eryne Croquet. “Last year, I was the lucky winner of a gift certificate to a local bike shop. I used it to get my e-bike serviced, and now it’s even more fun to ride my bike around Chilliwack. I’m really looking forward to the city using the new bike lane sweeper.”

Participants are encouraged to share their cycling stories online using the hashtags #CycleChilliwack and #GoByBikeBC.

Cycle Chilliwack was formed in 2017 following the City of Chilliwack’s adoption of the Cycle Vision Plan and is committed to advocating for safe and inclusive cycling infrastructure to support a community for persons of all ages and abilities.
