The Fraser Valley recorded its second-highest number of positive COVID-19 tests in a single day on Sunday.
A total of 101 people tested positive for the virus in the Fraser East region, which includes the communities of Abbotsford, Chilliwack, Mission, Agassiz and Hope.
Since the pandemic began, only one other day has seen more than 100 cases in the region. Dec. 1 saw 105 locals test positive for the virus, according to data now being released daily by the BC Centre for Disease Control.
Daily new-case figures vary significantly from day to day, but the recent trend suggests the virus is not be receding from view as health officials would have hoped after imposing new restrictions over the past month.
The seven-day average of new cases in the region reached nearly 80 in late November. The next 10 days saw that measure decline slightly, but new cases have begun to rise once again in the last week. That trend is similar across the province, with more cases being reported on Monday than seven days prior.
The most recent city-level data showed Abbotsford and Chilliwack had two of the highest rates of new cases in the province. Between Nov. 29 and Dec. 5, 352 Abbotsford residents and 140 Chilliwack residents tested positive for the virus.
