Fire destroyed a large chicken barn on Chadsey Road in the early hours of April 11.

It was at approximately 4:15 a.m. when Chilliwack Fire Department (CFD) crews were dispatched to a reported structure fire located in the 6900 block of Chadsey.

A passerby noticed black smoke coming from the rear of a barn structure on the property and called 911, according to a CFD press release.

Firefighters responded from Halls 1, 4 snd 6. Upon arrival crews found a single-storey barn structure was fully involved.

The barn that was formerly a chicken barn was being used as a storage shed for a greenhouse company.

Firefighters quickly went to a defensive attack and stopped the fire from damaging other buildings on site.

Half the barn was completely destroyed and the entire structure sustained major fire damage and will need to be replaced.

There were no civilian or firefighter injuries.

The cause of the fire appears to be accidental and is still under investigation by the Chilliwack Fire Department.
