A lazy Sunday afternoon turned terrifying for residents after fire broke out in their Webster Landing neighbourhood.

No one was injured in the brief blaze, but the flames were so intense the siding on neighbouring homes melted.

The fire broke out around 2 p.m. in a residential complex just of McLaren Drive near the Vedder River.

A witness said his neighbour was asleep in the backyard when he awoke to flames.

Five firetrucks and firefighters from two halls quickly brought the fire under control.

But damage to the building was evident.
