Chilliwack firefighters managed to stop a fire that started in the garage from spreading to the rest of the home on Ballam Road Tuesday afternoon.
Heavy black smoke was showing from the three-storey structure when firefighters arrived at around 1:45 p.m.
Crews from several firehalls were brought in to contain the blaze.
Tanker trucks were also brought in to supply water, as the property is on the Fraser River side of the dike.
Firefighters used a saw to cut one of the doors off the double-garage, and soon after had the fire under control.
Several people from the home evacuated and were safely outside.
