Highway 7 was closed near Ruby Creek for eight hours Monday (Sept. 21) as police investigated a motorcycle collision that killed one man sometime over the weekend.
While details are limited, Cpl. Mike Halskov with the RCMP’s Traffic Services confirmed that a man’s body was discovered by a citizen Monday morning. Police believe the man was involved in a fatal motorcycle collision sometime over the weekend.
Police did not confirm whether the collision involved only the motorcycle or another vehicle. “The collision remains under investigation and nothing has been ruled out at this time,” Halskov stated.
According to reports from one driver, at least three ambulances, one police cruiser and a fire truck were seen heading at high speeds from the Agassiz area towards the site of the incident Monday morning. The highway was closed from 11 a.m. to just past 7 p.m. Monday, Drive BC stated in a series of updates. The collision happened somewhere between Ohana and Chawathil roads.
Halskov confirmed that an investigation is ongoing, with a collision anayst and reconstruction service as well as Fraser Valley Traffic Services involved. The BC Coroners Service is also investigating the man’s death, to determine “cause of death and contributing factors, along with official time and location of death” Andy Watson with the service stated.
