ELECTION 2025: Mark Strahl re-elected in Chilliwack-Hope

Strahl holds commanding lead as polls report in

Conservative Mark Strahl has been re-elected in Chilliwack-Hope, with 55 per cent of the vote and 40 per cent of the polls reported at 9:06 p.m.

Strahl greeted his supporters and volunteers at Duke's Country Pub in Greendale at about 8:45 p.m., and gave a speech. He was first elected in 2011, succeeding his father, Chuck Strahl.

"I'm thankful for the support of the people of Chilliwack-Hope," he said. "This is my fifth election...unlike any of the other ones, I didn't know what was gonna happen tonight. I think we're over 40 per cent in the national polls and in any other election that would be enough for a majority government."

But this election was unlike any other in recent history, and Strahl outlined some of those differences.

"We've seen the absolute collapse of the NDP," he said. "We've seen, even today, external forces, Donald Trump, trying to influence our our election."

He said he would still back Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre.

"I think he's the best man for the job," Strahl said. "I think that we're going to quickly remind Canadians that Mark Carney isn't who he said he was. This has all been so quick. They've purposely done it this way all the way back from Trudeau suspending the House to a shotgun leadership race, to a shotgun election. This is all designed to have Canadians go to the polls before they knew who Mark Carney was, and we're going to make sure that Canadians know who he was, and we are going to hold this government to account.

"That's my promise to you, I promise to do it with honesty and integrity, and I look forward to serving the people of Chilliwack-Hope for this term. And look forward to the next election when we form a Conservative government."

As of 10 p.m. PST, Poilievre had not yet secured his riding. Liberal leader Mark Carney had been elected, and the Liberals were expected to form a minority government.
