Elderly pedestrian hit by truck in Chilliwack Thursday

After the hit and run witnesses saw a grey pickup leave the scene. Officers located the suspect truck, and took one into custody

An elderly pedestrian was struck by a pickup truck over the lunch hour Thursday and police were on-scene at Mary and Patten for hours.

An elderly pedestrian was struck by a pickup truck over the lunch hour Thursday near the intersection of Mary Street and Patten Avenue.

After the initial hit and run, witnesses reported seeing a truck, a grey pickup, leave the scene.

The Chilliwack senior succumbed to her injuries later, according to police reports.

The suspect vehicle was located quickly by officers on Hope River Road, and RCMP took one person into custody.

"It was a really good response by our members, and witnesses came forward to assist as well." said RCMP Cpl. Mike Rail.

The 78-year-old female victim was taken by hospital by B.C. Ambulance after the collision at about 12:15 p.m. on Dec. 1.

Members of Chilliwack RCMP Traffic and Integrated Collision Analysts Reconstructionists sections were on-scene most of the afternoon.

Traffic was shut down on nearby roads as the investigation was underway.
