Elderly man killed at Chilliwack rail crossing

An elderly man who was trying to cross the street was hit and killed by a train on Eagle Landing Parkway in Chilliwack on Tuesday.

An elderly man who was trying to cross the street was hit and killed by a train on Eagle Landing Parkway on Tuesday afternoon.

Several people who had stopped for the train witnessed the incident. Victim Services was called in to offer help to the witnesses. Support has also been called in for the train crew.

The man was on the north side of the tracks when he was hit at around 3:15 p.m. The crossing is located just south of Ashwell Road.

The road is currently closed and police are rerouting traffic via Deans Avenue.
