It may not be beach weather, but Cultus Lake was basking in double-digit temperatures Friday.
The thermometer hit 12.5 Celsius by mid afternoon, according to Environment Canada, giving the resort community the distinction of being the warmest place in Canada.
After a stormy Thursday that dropped nearly 70 millimetres of rain on the region, the sun broke through on Friday as warm Pacific air moved in.
Cultus Lake wasn’t the only place feeling the heat on Friday. Temperature records were set at several B.C. communities, including Castlegar, Nelson, Osoyoos, Princeton, Summerland, Warfield, and the Race Rocks light station.
There’s no word yet on whether or not Chilliwack was among the record breakers. But Roger Pannett, volunteer weather watcher for Environment Canada, said that once the numbers are crunched, he wouldn’t be surprised.
As for the coldest spot in Canada Friday, that honour went to in Resolute Airport in Nunavet, which checked in at -37.9 C.
