One person had to be rescued in the Chilliwack River Valley Tuesday evening after a creek began washing out the road he was on.

Chilliwack Search and Rescue (CSAR), Chilliwack River Valley Fire Department and RCMP were all called to 48701 Liumchen Creek Forest Service Road (FSR) shortly after 9 p.m. on Nov. 30.

The location is on the south side of Chilliwack River, directly across from the Chilliwack River Valley Fire Department, said Dan McAuliffe with CSAR.

The Fraser Valley Regional District (FVRD) issued an evacuation order for that property just seven hours earlier at 2 p.m.

A six-seat utility terrain vehicle (UTV) was used to get the young adult out of the area. UTVs differ from ATVs as people ride side-by-side, unlike ATVs which are meant for single riders.

The man who was rescued was not injured and was “high and dry” when CSAR got to him, he just couldn’t get out on his own, McAuliffe said.

If the man had a large 4-by-4 vehicle he would have been able to evacuate without needing help, he added.

Liumchen Creek FSR is also known as Tamihi Road, Tamihi Liumchen FSR, Tamihi FSR, and Chilliwack Liumchen Creek FSR and there is only one private property on that road.

On Monday (Nov. 29), FVRD issued an evacuation order for another property in the same area at the end of Osborne Road, which is on the north side of the river.
