Chilliwack RCMP and fire officials are investigating a fire that erupted in a vacant commercial building on Yale Road early Friday morning.

Heavy smoke and flames were venting from the single-story, 3500-square foot building when firefighters arrived at the scene in the 5100-block Yale Road just after 2 a.m.

Firefighters from three firehalls battled the blaze for nearly three hours. The fire had burned into the attic, making it difficult to extinguish.

The basement was also gutted, and there was “significant” damage to the main floor where two businesses were located.
