All the fun and flowers at the Chilliwack Tulip Festival are set to begin on Monday, April 11.

“It’s hard to believe it’s been 16 years since our first tulip festival,” said festival founder Kate Onos-Gilbert.

The event has blossomed into the largest tulip event in B.C., with more than nine million bulbs set to come up this year.

“We’ve been lucky to continue growing year after year and so in addition to returning visitors, we look forward to welcoming many first-time spectators in 2022, who will experience the awe of standing amidst millions of tulips and other types of flowers in a wide-open, unspoiled natural environment,” Onos-Gilbert said.

Guests are invited to wander through more than 20 acres of flowers with 30 tulip varieties, and 15 types of daffodils.

When it launched in 2006 it was the first of its kind. Today, the Chilliwack Tulip Festival has become a cheerful annual tradition that draws tens of thousands of visitors when the fields begin to bloom.

And now, the Chilliwack Tulip Festival proudly returns for its 16th edition, beginning Monday, April 11.

The first few days will feature the early blooming varieties, including the ‘World’s Favourite’ as well as the double daffodils, located in the far field, so those with mobility issues may want to schedule their visit later in the festival when the front fields are in bloom.

Organizers say the different types of tulips bloom at different times, so that all of the flowers can be enjoyed throughout the season, but in different locations. There will be between seven and 20 acres of flowers in full bloom for the duration of the festival.

For those wanting to capture memories or add beauty to their social media feeds, there are several photo-op props like swings, raised platforms, a 1950s convertible, and an antique horse cart. There are also outdoor lawn games to play.

The Farm Shop will be offering fresh cut and potted tulips, sunflower seeds for the garden, and tulip-themed souvenirs, along with individually wrapped frozen treats and bottled refreshments. Three food trucks will be on-hand.

The Chilliwack Tulip Festival runs daily from April 11, 2022 for approximately three to four weeks. The fields are at 41310 Royalwood Dr, just off Highway 1.

Parking is free. Tickets are online only, with more details at chilliwacktulipfest.com.
