A prominent figure in the Chilliwack district parents’ advisory council and former school trustee candidate is facing several sex-related charges.

Corey Neyrinck, 27, was in court Tuesday on allegations of six sex-related offenses, including sexual assault, sexual interference of a person under 16, making or publishing child pornography, and possession of child pornography.

He also faced three charges for breaching bail conditions.

He is being kept in custody.

Neyrinck is well known in the Chilliwack school community.

Since 2008, he has been actively involved with McCammon traditional school’s parents’ advisory council, serving the last two years as chair. He also held the position of vice-chair with the Chilliwack District Parents’ Advisory Council for more than a year.

Neyrinck also ran in last November’s school trustee byelection, and garnered the second least amount of votes among the six candidates.

He was cited last week by the City of Chilliwack for failing to file his election expense disclosure statement; a penalty of $500.

According to Chilliwack school district, Neyrinck resigned from both PAC positions earlier this year, and does not currently have access to Chilliwack schools.

“He is no longer associated with the Chilliwack school district in any way,” superintendent Evelyn Novak told The Progress.

“We take our role of protecting student welfare very seriously and we act quickly on any information that comes to our attention.”

Neyrinck is scheduled to next appear in court on April 29.
