The City of Chilliwack is asking residents to clear snow and ice from storm drains as the Lower Mainland braces for a change in weather.
More snowfall is expected Sunday, according to a special weather statement issued by Environment Canada.
However that snow will turn to rain on Monday.
Combined with warmer temperatures and melting snow, the rain could lead to localized flooding, the statement says.
To lessen that risk, residents are being asked by the City to clear any snow away from catch basins in front of their property.
“If you would like to know if there is a catch basin in front of your property you may call the Engineering Department at 604.793.2907 and a member of staff will be able to advise you,” the City says.
Meanwhile, snow clearing on city streets continues.
High winds that had abated Thursday returned Friday, sending drifting snow across major north-south routes like Prest and Evans Road. At several points during the day the roads were closed to allow for plowing.
By mid-day Friday, work crews had improved driving conditions on 60 per cent of the Chilliwack’s roadways, the city said.
“Crews will continue through the day and into tonight to work on improving driving conditions around the city.”
