An Alberta man faces criminal charges after allegedly driving a stolen car past a RCMP plain clothes officer near Island 22.

The charges stem from a traffic stop made by a Chilliwack Crime Reduction Unit officer at approximately 1 a.m. on June 3, 2016 during a police dial-a-dope operation.

The vehicle was quickly identified as a stolen automobile from Alberta and the driver was taken into custody.

Justin Leon Robichaud, 33, has been charged with possession of stolen property and fail to comply with conditions of recognizance. Robichaud was released from custody pending a court appearance in early July.

“The Crime Reduction drug section works covertly and often apprehends those committing other criminal acts during the course of their duties,” said Corporal Mike Rail, Media Relations Officer for the Upper Fraser Valley Regional Detachment.

RCMP remind everyone who witnesses anything they believe to be suspicious in nature to contact the Chilliwack RCMP at 604-702-4611 or, should you wish to remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
