Be sure to open up your copy of The Chilliwack Progress on Friday (June 11) – and check out the e-edition at www.theprogress.com – for the inaugural edition of our new magazine, 101 Things to See and Do in Chilliwack.

Whether you’re a longtime resident or someone who is brand new in town, there’s something in these 40 pages for you.

Chilliwack truly is an urban oasis amid the agricultural heart of the province, all surrounded by the mountainous beauty of British Columbia.

Our city offers towering mountain views, beautiful forests and sparkling rivers, and many of our 101 things are get-outside suggestions. There’s no better place to find amazing trails to hike, many located within the city’s core and many found in the surrounding mountains and rivers and dykes — the options are endless.

We celebrate our past here in Chilliwack, and what a colourful and amazing history we have. From the Chilliwack Museum & Archives to the Atchelitz Threshermen’s Association site to guided Indigenous tours offered through Stó:lo Tourism, there is lots to learn and experience.

And don’t forget The Chilliwack Progress archives, we are British Columbia’s oldest community newspaper dating back 1891. Yes, this is our 130th anniversary.

When it comes to agriculture, it may be clichéd, but our roots run deep. We are the heart of the province’s agricultural economy and Chilliwack allows visitors to get up close and personal with a variety of different locally grown products and animals.

Chilliwack’s dining scene is getting better all the time with old favourites like Bravo Restaurant & Lounge downtown and Shandhar Hut Indian Cuisine to new eateries opening all the time. From Cultivate Cafe on Fairfield Island to Lakeside Beach Club at Cultus Lake to Wild Cat Grill in Popkum to Duke’s Country Pub in Greendale, Chilliwack is literally surrounded and infused with lots of great spots to eat out.

If it’s coffee you want, Chilliwack has several independent cafés and if it’s craft beer you’re looking for, Chilliwack has new ones that have opened up in the last year giving you a wide selection.

We’ve got a new curling rink, a third ice rink in Sardis, and our newest recreational facility is North America’s longest pump track.

Whether it’s camping or golfing or swimming or skating or mountain biking, Chilliwack has it all.

To keep a copy of our magazine close by, view and download it here. You can add it to the home screen on your mobile device and have access to it with the tap of your finger.

On Monday, June 14 we will launch 101 Days of 101 Things to See and Do on The Chilliwack Progress Facebook page. Each day we will post one of the things to see and do so readers can watch for those posts each day.

And watch out for a 101 Things to See and Do photo contest. There will be weekly prizes, including golf passes to Cheam Mountain Golf course, swag from District 1881 and gift cards from Shandhar Hut, Luna Float, Mill Street Barber, Smoking Guns Coffee, Bow & Stern, Cultivate Café, Stormy’s, Brightside Eggs, and Rebalance Rehab.

The Progress had a great time compiling this list for our community. Please continue to share your ideas and experiences with us. Drop in to the office, send us an email or share your idea on our Facebook page. We’d love to hear from you.
