Chilliwack police, firefighters investigate late-night blaze

Chilliwack home, scheduled to be used for training, destroyed in a fire that firefighers say was deliberately set

An abandoned home that Chilliwack firefighters had hoped to use for training purposes, turned into the real thing Tuesday night.

The two-storey home, located in the 46000 block of Prairie Central Road, was in flames when firefighters from three halls arrived just before 10 p.m.

The fire had been deliberately set, said assistant fire chief Ian Josephson. The Chilliwack Fire Department and RCMP fire are investigating.

The house, which was not occupied, was being set up for the eventual use by the fire department for training.

Firefighters confined and extinguished the fire, but not before the house was extensively damaged. It is not considered salvageable.

There were no firefighter injuries.

If anyone has any information about this fire, they are asked to call the RCMP at 604-792-4611 or anonymously through Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or www.chilliwackcrimestoppers.ca
