Police have charged a 39-year-old Chilliwack man following a string of armed robberies in the city.
RCMP believe Stephen David Turner was responsible for three robberies – including two where an imitation firearm was allegedly produced.
The first two robberies occurred Sunday, first outside the Young Street Market, then later that evening at an ATM machine at the Scotia Bank on Yale Road.
At the time, police suspected the two robberies were related.
The third theft occurred Tuesday night at the TD Canada Trust at 46017 Yale Road. The victim advised police that he was assaulted and robbed after withdrawing money from the ATM.
Although the male suspect fled the area, he was located and arrested by police a short distance away.
"Fortunately we had members patrolling the area at the time of the last incident," said Corporal Tammy Hollingsworth. "One of our members spotted a man matching the description of the suspect and after a short foot pursuit the man was taken into custody."
Turner, charged with three counts of robbery and two counts of use imitation firearm to commit an indictable offence, will remain in custody until his next court appearance on Feb. 4,
