A grad party with 200 youths in the Little Mountain area of Chilliwack got out of hand Friday night drawing police officers to restore order.
Police arrived in the Swallow Crescent area at about 11:30 p.m. to find cars parked illegally and several youths attempting to jump over a large bonfire.
“Many of the participants at the party were verbally and physically aggressive toward police,” RCMP Const. Tracy Wolbeck said.
“This is a very dangerous situation,” she said. “We see people behave in ways they never normally would once the group mentality takes over.”
“This poses an enormous challenge for police,” she said.
Police tested the sobriety of all those leaving the area before allowing them to drive, and several parents were called to pick up their teenagers.
The RCMP want to remind graduates of the importance of sound decision-making when out celebrating this milestone.
A similar gathering of youths drinking on the grounds of Promontory Elementary School also required police attendance.
