A COVID-19 outbreak at Chilliwack General Hospital (CGH) has been declared over by Fraser Health.

“With the implementation of comprehensive strategies, there is no longer an outbreak at this site,” Fraser Health said in a notice sent out Tuesday morning, April 13.

The outbreak was declared on March 25, when BC Health Minister Adrian Dix confirmed that four CGH patients had tested positive. In a March 26 update, Fraser Health confirmed that the outbreak was limited to one unit which was temporarily closed to admissions.

“Upon declaring the outbreak, Fraser Health immediately implemented precautions, including enhanced cleaning as well as contact tracing to protect the health of all staff, medical staff, and patients,” a Fraser Health news release noted.

The emergency department remained open during the outbreak.

This marked the third time CGH has had an outbreak declared within its walls. Five patients tested positive in late February, an outbreak was declared and a unit within CGH was closed. It took nearly a month (Feb. 28 to Mar. 22) for Fraser Health to announce that the outbreak had ended.

An outbreak was also declared at CGH in the first week of January, after one person at the hospital was confirmed to have COVID.
