Get ready to see farm animals, 4-H competitions and entertainment because the Chilliwack Fair is back – and the plans are for it to be in-person.

It will go ahead for the first weekend in August, provided COVID-19 regulations continue on the planned path, the Chilliwack Fair announced Thursday (June 17).

“We’re working to create a safe Fair experience that incorporates all of your favourite activities in an in-person environment, Aug. 6 to 8, 2021,” read the announcement. “Our theme will be ‘Stirrup Some Fun,’ as we could all use some fun this summer!”

After more than a year of virtual events the 149th fair will be the first, large-scale, in-person event to return to Chilliwack since the pandemic first hit last spring.

The event schedule has not yet been released, but they did state they are “desperate” for volunteers.

“Being that we are getting a late start at the planning process, along with the uncertainty and variable comfort levels due to COVID-19 we have some key positions that need to be filled as well as all of our fabulous regular positions.”

Department head key positions in the Home and Garden area involve the following:

- Organizing judge, special awards, volunteers, setup and take down of one department, including overseeing the department during the fair

- This involves approximately 10-20 hours prior to the fair and 25-35 hours during fair week.

All volunteer opportunities and registration will go through their website at www.chilliwackfair.com/volunteer. Anyone interested can email volunteer@chilliwackfair.com or call 604-824-8191 for more information.

More updates about the Chilliwack Fair will be released later.
