Charges laid in alleged Chilliwack road rage incident from June 2021

46-year-old charged with assault, uttering threats, and dangerous driving

Charges have been laid against a Chilliwack man in connection with an alleged road rage incident last spring at the Lickman-Luckakuck roundabout.

James Thomas Parkes, 46, is charged with one count each of assault, uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm, and dangerous operation of a vehicle.

On June 16, 2021, at approximately 3:30 p.m., a motorist went to the Chilliwack RCMP detachment to report the incident that occurred at the traffic circle 15 minutes before.

Another motorist travelling through the Lickman Road roundabout said they were cut off by the operator of a black truck towing a black dump trailer who then blocked the road, grabbed the first motorist and threatened to punch the driver.

Frontline officers were unable to locate the black truck. Chilliwack RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Mike Rail then issued a plea to motorists in the area that afternoon who may have witnessed the altercation or obtained dash-cam video.

“It is fortunate that no one was injured during the incident,” Rail said in a press release.

Later in the year Parkes was charged, and he had his first appearance on Nov. 2, 2021. His next appearance is scheduled for Jan. 25, 2022.

Parkes does not have a lengthy criminal history, but he was convicted of assault and served 14 days in jail in 1996. He also has several speeding convictions, including one excessive speeding and failure to stop at a railway crossing, according to Court Services Online.
