VIDEO: Car catches fire in shopping plaza parking lot in Chilliwack

The engine of a car caught fire in the parking lot of CIBC Friday (May 28).

Chilliwack Fire Department was called to the scene shortly after 9 a.m. where they found an engine compartment on fire close to a hydro pole.

Chilliwack RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Mike Rail said that the fire was spotted by a patrolling member.

The vehicle was next to a hydro pole, but crews extinguished the blaze quickly and there was no further damage.

Rail confirmed that police spoke to the owner who had recent mechanical work done on the vehicle.

“There was no evidence of a criminal act,” he said.

Witnesses on the scene said the vehicle is owned by a CIBC employee.
