*Update: Shortly after 4 p.m. Chilliwack Fire Department crews reported that Vedder Road was back open to traffic.

Traffic in the Vedder Crossing area was being diverted Friday afternoon due to a gas line hit at or near a townhouse complex on Vedder Road south of the Watson-Promontory intersection.

A section of Vedder Road between just north of the Jolly Miller Pub and Watson-Promontory was closed to all traffic after 1:30 p.m. That was later moved to the entire stretch from Thomas Road north to Watson-Promontory.

Chilliwack Fire Department crews were dispatched to the scene. FortisBC was also reportedly on scene.

One resident of a townhouse in the area said pedestrians were also not being allowed through, and she said she can smell gas from her window.
