Taps are back on in many parts of the Sumas Prairie hit hard by flooding, but there is a boil water notice for residents bound by Angus Campbell Road to the west, Highway 1 to the north, Chilliwack/Abbotsford border to the east, Canada/US border and Old Yale Road to the south.

Water will be introduced pipe by pipe, as roads become accessible and crews can confirm there are no breaks.

The advisory is expected to be in place for several days. For those in the affected area, it may take several hours for normal water pressure to return.

No other areas of the Abbotsford water system are affected by this event and the water remains safe to drink. As the condition of the system is not fully known, water service in the aforementioned area may intermittent and turned off, if another break is identified.

Water to those areas was shut off at 9 p.m. on Tuesday (Nov. 16).

It is strongly recommended to boil water before drinking and use boiled or bottled water for cooking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing food or dishes and making infant formula. Avoid bathing young children in a bathtub and use a handheld shower if possible.

Water should be boiled for at least one minute and preferably done with a kettle.
