Chilliwack remains the COVID hotspot of the Fraser Valley, according to the latest data from the BC Centre for Disease Control.

From Oct. 5 to Oct. 11, Chilliwack had the highest rate of infection in the Lower Mainland, at 34 daily cases per 100,000, though there was a slight decrease from the previous week.

Hope had the second highest rate in the region at 30 daily cases per 100,000, spiking up from 19 the previous week.

Mission had 20 cases per 100,000, Abbotsford had 19 and Agassiz/Harrison at 16, still high compared to the Lower Mainland but showing a slight decrease.

Vaccine coverage is slowly creeping up across the region, likely a positive sign for provincial health officers who imposed further restrictions in Fraser Health east in late September.

Week over week, each city is adding another one percent to their pool of residents who have received their first dose.

Abbotsford has the highest rate at 88 per cent (79 per cent fully vaccinated), followed by Agassiz/Harrison at 83 per cent (76), Mission at 80 per cent (72), Chilliwack at 79 per cent (72) and Hope at 77 per cent (69).

As of Oct. 5, 88 per cent of eligible people in B.C. have received their first dose, 82 per cent are fully vaccinated.

The unvaccinated are 10 times more likely to be infected, 52 times more likely to be hospitalized and 44 times more likely to die.

They account for 70 per cent of new cases, and 81 per cent of new hospitalizations.

Test positivity (public tests) was highest in Hope at 12 per cent, followed by Chilliwack at nine per cent. The other municipalities hover around the provincial average of six per cent.
