Power has been knocked out for much of the Agassiz area just north of the Agassiz-Rosedale Bridge.

B.C. Hydro has confirmed the power was out for 1,600 customers; this number has since dropped down to just over 160 on the west side of Agassiz.

The cause for the outage is believed to be a motor vehicle crash. Emergency personnel and B.C. Hydro workers rushed to the scene of the crash located at Lougheed Highway and Ashton Road. Traffic began to back up along the highway as emergency workers began to clear the scene.

The estimated time for power to come on for the remaining customers is 6 p.m. Wednesday.

More to come.
