An Abbotsford man who was being investigated for sexual offences fled the city in July and is now wanted by police.

Official charges were sworn Wednesday in Abbotsford provincial court against 61-year-old Stephen Edgar McCreary.

He is accused of 13 sexual offences, four counts of aggravated assault and one count of forcible confinement.

Abbotsford Police Const. Ian MacDonald said specifics of the alleged crimes cannot be reported due to a publication ban.

McCreary has resided in both Abbotsford and Chiliwack, starting about 10 years ago, and police believe he left the area because he knew about the investigation.

MacDonald said there has been evidence that the accused has since spent time in Ontario, Quebec and eastern Canada – areas where he has family members and friends.

"We don't believe family members know about the charges," MacDonald said.

McCreary is a former truck driver, and it's possibly he might be working in the field again, MacDonald added.

This is the first set of criminal charges he has faced.

McCreary is 5' 9" and weighs 180 pounds. He has brown eyes and short grey hair.

Anyone with information about McCreary's whereabouts is asked to call the Abbotsford Police Department at 604-859-5225, police in their area, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
