A dozen new electric vehicle chargers will soon be on order from City of Chilliwack for installation in seven locations.

Council approved the purchase of 10 level 2 electric vehicle (EV) chargers (dual port), and two level 3 fast chargers (single port) from Flo EV, for a total of $202,700.

The existing chargers at City Hall and the Chilliwack Visitor Centre have “served the community well” but frequent repairs were required and some parts were no longer available, according to the staff report for the Feb. 15 council meeting.

“With the recent City Hall expansion, new equipment is required in the new public parking lot and the equipment at the Visitor Centre is at the end of its serviceable life and needs replacement.”

New chargers are coming to:

• Victoria Ave parking lot (including 2 fast chargers)

• City Hall

• Chilliwack Visitor Centre

• Chilliwack Courthouse

• Chilliwack Landing Leisure Centre

• Sardis Sports Complex

• Chilliwack Operations Centre

They will be installed in tandem with the new City Hall expansion anticipated to be completed by 2023.
